Derek and Erin
Location: City Island
I had the best time photographing Derek and Erin at City Island for their wedding anniversary session last week! I met them about 5 years ago and I can’t believe how fast the time has gone. Erin was one of my first friends in the industry and we’ve been close since the moment we bonded over a mutual love of mac and cheese. Erin and I clicked immediately and have been so close the last few years. Erin and Derek are high school sweethearts, just like Caleb and myself, so I think we instantly bonded over that too. We also share a love of tacos & dogs so friendship was kind of inevitable.
I’ve learned over the years how important it is for photographers to have friends in the industry. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been home in my office working during the day and needed a change of scenery – so I ended up packing my laptop in my Ona to edit at her place for a few hours or met her for lunch somewhere. Friendships in the industry go beyond networking, although that’s fun too. I mean real friendships. I’m talking about going over to their house for tacos. It’s also about checking in just to see how things are going. I feel grateful to have friends like these two.
We were super lucky and had a clear day with gorgeous weather for their wedding anniversary session. We got together a few hours before sunset to walk around City Island and had the most gorgeous light. I love shooting any time of day, but golden hour creates this warm, glowy light that I love. Below are a few photographs I took last weekend from the sweet wedding anniversary session we had at City Island in Harrisburg.
